Not so Bloody

Today I got the opportunity to go to the Tower of London after class.  It was really great! Unfortunately I don't have pictures to post here because I forgot my memory card.  But if you want to see some pictures check out my tagged photos on facebook.  My great roommate Katie took some for me.  Anyway, despite the fact that I was extremely tired seeing as I stayed up till 2 am skyping with some of my favorite people, I learned a lot.

For example I learned that I want to be a princess.  Mostly so I can wear a crown.  Just kidding.  What stuck out to me was how heartless the people in line to be king or queen could be.  I just cannot imagine wanting something so badly that I would one by one kill my family off. The story of the two princes who were kidnapped and taken to the London tower appalled me.  These were just little boys, it wasn't even like they had a lot of power. That culture is so foreign to me but it actually happened! This isn't some fairy tale that is made up. I wish I knew more about English history however, I think that would have made the whole experience that much more meaningful.

The bloody tower was interesting, but not very bloody.  Seriously I expected this very dramatic spectacle depicting torture and death but not so much. I think in a way that really shows respect. This wasn't a story, it was real.  People really were tortured and killed, a lot of times for no reason at all, just because they weren't on the King's good side.  Even though it wasn't dramatic as I would have thought it definitely held more meaning for me that way.  I have to say it was a learning experience.

After that Katie and I headed home, almost missing our tube stop because I was sleeping and she was reading, that would not have been cool.  While I am talking about Katie I have to share something about London.  Apparently everyone who runs, runs with backpacks on.  I don't know why but every day I see multiple people out jogging with their backpacks. I think it is hilarious every time so Katie and I have decided that every time we see it we do a little quick "movement" depicting putting on a backpack and jogging.  I personally find it HILARIOUS! However now that I am writing it I am sure most of you will think it is quite dumb.  Oh well just sharing. :)

After we ate and took a short nap we (Katie, Bre, Addison, Ari, Megan, Dezi) headed out to see a show called London Road.  Sad story though, it was sold out.  So we decided to see a show called Rocket to the Moon which was also playing at the national.  Boy was it good! Seriously, I can't stop thinking about it and discussing it.  It addressed love and what that means and how staying true to yourself plays into that idea of love.  The characters were amazing because they developed so beautifully.  The first scene I had decided that the one character was going to be the joke character who is ditzy and has nothing to really contribute but she ended up being the main character and her character was beautiful.  It was so great to watch that development happen on stage.  My favorite line for the show goes something like this, ( I copied it down in the middle of the show so it is verbatim) "Love is not a solution to life, oh, contraire.  You have to bring a balanced life TO love." Oh and then another one went something like, "Love is not a Sunday coat, it is not desert, Love is a beginning, love is a jumping off point." Ah, it was so great!

I will be contemplating this show for quite sometime which is what theatre is all about. It really made me look inside myself at my own standards and re-evaluate.  Wonderful!

Tomorrow we are going to the temple. I cannot tell you how excited I am.  It is time to refocus my life which I always happens for me when I am completely in tune with the spirit without any outside distractions.  The wonderful gospel.  Goodnight all, until tomorrow.
